Rice (Oryza sativd) is one of the most important food crops for more than 50 percent of the world's population. To increase the potentiality and productivity for meeting out the food challenges to the ever growing population, adopting of hybrid rice technology is one of the ways to break the yield plateau and achieve quantum jump in rice production. The discovery of WA cytoplasm of the plasmon source has contributed a great share in developing hybrids. The information on combining ability and gene action for different agronomic characters are important to achieve superior genotypes from the segregating populations or in exploitation of heterosis in rice. The Line x Tester (LxT) analysis of combining ability proposed by Kempthorne (1957) is one of the common methods employed by breeder to find out the general and specific combiners in addition to study the nature of gene action governing the characters. Hence, an attempt was made to study the combining ability of male sterile lines and testers through LxT analysis.
