Light on materials

Over 1500 abstracts from 51 countries and over 1000 presenters were massaged into the complex program of ICEM-08. Organising the event must have been somewhat of a logistics nightmare. I mean that in the most complimentary way since it also proved extremely difficult to determine what to attend in the fear that one might be missing out on something of more significance. In addition to the 19 technical symposia there were a number of special events, including an energy forum and an industry day, three substantial evening poster sessions, an exhibition featuring global and Australian organisations and, most significantly, three plenary sessions offering the opportunity to hear from five of the world's most distinguished scientists in materials research.
