Perhaps the most exciting and stimulating network that any scientist could be involved in is the annual Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. I had the good fortune to attend the 42nd meeting as Australia's first 'official representative'. That meeting was described as 'interdisciplinary' since the Nobel Laureates present represented the fields of physics, chemistry, and physiology and medicine - a feature also true for the 60th meeting, which takes place 27 June to 2 July this year. The organisers cycle the meetings across the disciplines - the 59th meeting was dedicated to chemistry, as will be the 63rd meeting in June/July 2013.1 strongly suggest that all students of science aspire to attend one of these meetings during their careers.
