摘要

WHILE LIBRARIES may traditionally be slow-paced, managing safety at the British Library is anything but. From accommodating the 400,000 visitors who use the library's reading rooms each year, to emergency planning in advance of the new Eurostar terminal opening at London's St Pancras, the safety challenges facing head of safety Rosemarie De Val are varied and often surprising. Many of these challenges stem from the sheer size of the British Library's undertaking. De Val and her team of two safety officers are responsible for 2070 employees working across five sites, including the landmark building at St Pancras - which receives 4000 visitors each day - and sites in Colindale and Boston Spa, West Yorkshire.
