摘要

The Fort Qu'Appelle Fish Culture Station in Saskatchewan, Canada is showing her age. A renovation some 30 years ago and years of "the duct tape and bubble-gum approach" says, manager, Nelson Bergh, have kept things going so the hatchery could celebrate its 100th birthday recently, but there is still much to do.Last November the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation took over the operation of the hatchery from the provincial government and it is hoped that the organization will be able to leverage more funds to complete the sorely needed upgrades. The hatchery was built in 1915 near Fort Qu'Appelle on Echo Lake. Since then, nearly three billion fish have been turned out to stock Saskatchewan waterbodies and streams. But it hasn't produced whitefish for about 15 years.
