GDF Suez's New Partner

The memorandum of understanding between China Investment Corp. (CIC) and GDF Suez unveiled last week not only marks the Chinese sovereign wealth fund's largest single energy investment ever, worth some ?2.9 billion ($4.1 billion), it also brings a potentially important new player into the global LNG business, while diversifying the position of the vertically integrated French company. The Chinese fund is looking to acquire GDF Suez's 10% stake in Train 1 of Atlantic LNG (ALNG) and 30% of its exploration and production arm. A deal could be concluded this year.
