The North American turn from gas-to-liquids(GTL)toward coal-based synfu-els has taken a new twist with consideration by ConocoPhillips and big coal producer Peabody Energy of a commercial scale coal-to-substitute natural gas(SNG)facility that would use proprietary Conoco technology.SNG also is known as synthetic natural gas or syngas.
