摘要

With more than 1,200 trillion cubic feet (34 trillion cubic meters), Iran may be sitting on the world's largest natural gas reserves, but a series of sanctions slapped on Tehran over its controversial nuclear program over the past 10 years has stopped it becoming a similarly huge exporter. Unlike its tiny neighbor Qatar, the world's top LNG exporter with which it shares its South Pars gas field — known as the North Field in the Gulf Arab state — Iran ships only marginal volumes of gas via pipeline to Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia, and none in liquefied form. Having reached a comprehensive agreement with six world powers last week that will see the gradual lifting of international sanctions in return for curbs on Tehran's nuclear program, that could be about to change (WGI Jun.24'15).
