Mexico Importing More LNG, Less US Gas

Mexico's pipeline gas imports from the US continue to decline, indicating the country is on track to replace US gas with LNG - and perhaps even become a net gas exporter to the US. For the gas-glutted US, it couldn't happen at a worse time (p8).Mexico imported 396 million cubic feet per day of US pipeline gas in the first quarter (1 billion cubic meters in total), down from 629 MMcf/d in first quarter-2008. The largest decline occurred at Reynosa on the border with Texas, where imports plunged to 70 MMcf/d in March, from 159 MMcf/d in March 2008.
