Spain's second largest power company union Fenosa has lined up MW Kellogg and Japan's Chiyoda to submit two competing designs for its proposed LNG export plant at Damietta in northern Egypt. The award of a front end engineering design contract to Chiyoda was disclosed two months ago(WGI Oct, p11).But both its contract and the separate one to UK-based MW Kellogg, a division of US giant Halliburton, were only formally awarded awarded by Fenosa on Nov.30. Whereas Chiyoda's design will be for a two- train LNG project with capacity to produce up to 8 million tons/yr, Kellogg's FEED contract specifies a single-train a 3.5 MMt/yr single train LNG facility .Each will receive a fee for its work, but the main prize is to be selected for the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC)contract-due to be awarded in summer 2001, Both groups are scheduled to complete their designs by March 20014. Whichever design is chosen , the project is expected to be operational by mid to end-2004
