COOL Kicks in

After years on the table, country of origin labeling is now in effect and includes fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables. THE implementation of country of origin labeling (COOL) went into effect at the end of September, which began a six-month effortto educate involved parties on what they need to do to be in compliance. With the final rule spanning 233 pages, there's no doubt more education will be required. On the day that implementation kicked in, USDA administrator of the agency's Agricultural Marketing Service, Lloyd Day, took questions from the media to address the new rule.
