The Western Australian road transport industry has worked hard alongside the responsible state government agencies to reduce the danger of driver fatigue in commercial operations. The new regulatory regime introduced last month (Western Transport, July 2003) was developed with the industry's support and assistance. But consumer and employment protection minister John Kobelke nearly threw all that co-operation out the window. In a media statement announcing the new fatigue awareness campaign, Kobelke chose to talk tough.
