It was 1947-48 when I became involved in the business of growing mushrooms. The company I joined was Riiey and Clarke of Market Harborough. Our growing rooms were ex-RAF huts, dismantled on the aerodrome, transported back and re-erected. Shelves werein use, a combination of timber, wire netting bases, covered with sizalcraft paper. Approximately fifty tons of horse manure was hand turned over a period of 21-28 days.
