I'm sure the pressures of the mushroom business are starting to get to me. Apparently, I am well known on the farm for my diplomacy. Claire Raynor was my nickname for a while but has now become Doctor Sock -- I won't go into that one here. However,there is a limit. One particular day, when the rigours of growing mushrooms and dealing with customers had taken it's toll, the shop man announced that the new sign for the Farm Shop had the wrong opening time for Saturday morning, 9.00 a.m. instead of 9.30 a.m. Normally, this would be met with a cheery response along the line of "we'll sort that out". The actual answer of, "well, start work half an hour earlier, then", caused the chap to leave the office rapidly, announcing that I was in a bad mood. Damn right I was. Something he hadn't experienced before - although I'm sure he will again. Another comment on the same day that a pot-hole in the drive was dangerous for cyclists was met similarly. It seems obvious to me that, "ride around it, then", is the answer to that one. The kids are right, I am a miserable old sod!
