In this issue we have a very interesting selection of submitted papers. In their manuscript on a one-year epidemi-ological prospective follow-up study to detect new and long term AIDS infections by determining in vitro transmission times in cases diagnosed as HIV positive for the first time at three different centres, Kocazeybek et al. examine the importance of HIV infection transmission times in the Marmara Region of Turkey. Also from Turkey, Donmez et al., have an excellent paper on the effect of cholesterol levels on hematopoietic stem cell mobilization, concluding that due to their group heterogeneity, prospective cohort studies, including healthy donors, are needed to demonstrate the effect of cholesterol on mobilization and its extent in humans.
