Whether you are considering crabbing up north, or dropping a crab pot in the local estuary, Dick Eussen has some sound and sensible advice. When it comes to great seafood, mud and sand crabs are hard to beat. And the best thing about crabs is they'reeasy to catch yourself. Three types of traps are used, the dilly, the pot, and the witch's hat or suicide net. In some parts of the country all you'll need is a hand-held scoop net and a torch to catch a feed of blue swimmer crabs as they move into shallow flats at night on the tide. I used to catch muddies this way also, but with the increase of crocs in the tropical North I think it's a health hazard!
