Dr William Southall of Frost Electroplating and Chair of the SEA Health and Safety and Environment Committee, urged companies to share ways of making savings with other business. He explained actions taken by his own company to save on process heating, which have resulted in substantial falls in energy usage and cash savings. Even before taking into count capital allowances, a saving of 87 000 pounds in four years was achieved. Future energy savings he said would come from lagging tanks and buildings and good housekeeping generally.John Oliver of Anochrome also described measures taken by his company including the use of biological cleaners for certain applications. He too urged the nee for good housekeeping with electricity monitoring and rectifying plant problems promptly.
