When John Deere's articulated 8010 was introduced it was celebrated as the most powerful tractor offered by a mainstream manufacturer. But it proved a bit of a problem child because it was underdeveloped. Its story starts in 1953. As John Deere was looking to increase power it added a General Motors Detroit 4-71 to a Case 500 and when it was loaned to farmers they were duly impressed.
