Revlon S&E: New York-based cosmetics firm reported that earnings fell 15.7% to $48.8 mil. and sales declined 3.8% to $1.3 bil. in 2009, despite a solid fourth quarter. In a Feb. 25 release, company noted that higher sales of Revlon ColorSilk hair color were offset by overall lower sales of Revlon and Almay color cosmetics in 2009, and earnings were impacted by $21.3 mil. in restructuring charges. Fourth-quarter sales were up 3.1% to $344.6 mil. due to the positive impact of foreign currency valuations, and earnings increased 12.7% to $12.8 mil. from the same period last year. Success of Revlon ColorStay Ultimate liquid lipstick helped firm capture an industry-leading 22.3% share of the lip segment, based on data from ACNielsen, Revlon says. Firm is introducing Revlon PhotoReady makeup, Revlon ColorBurst lipstick and Almay Smart Shade Anti-Aging makeup in the first half of 2010.
