摘要

As Casey and colleagues note, women have been under-represented in early-stage clinical trials, in large part due to concerns about possible teratogenic effects of investigative agents (Casey et al. 2012). In order to address the problems of underrepresentation and possible teratogenicity, participation of women in early stage clinical trials has been promoted-with the prerequisite that all potential research subjects who are physiologically capable of becoming pregnant must use effective methods of contraception before, during, and after the trial as a condition of their participation.
