The articles in this year's Exploration and Development Highlights give credence to a general feeling that the mineral exploration and development sector is on a roll. Look at the facts. Last year's exploration spending in British Columbia reached 416 million dollars, a staggering increase of 57 percent over the previous year. Drilling is up 50 percent over the same period. Can this really be the same province that recorded a measly 42 million dollars in exploration and deposit appraisal in the year 2000? Similar results are reported in Ontario, where exploration spending climbed to a record 519 million dollars. Eight years ago, exploration investment in the province barely made it past the 100 million dollars mark.
