Comments received on the draft revision (DR 03188) of AS 1851 covering Maintenance of fire safety systems and equipment will improve the Standard considerably and the extent of changes required will necessitate the issue of a second Public Comment Draft before the project is finalised. The fully revised AS 1851 represents a fresh approach to fire safety systems and equipment maintenance. Scope and frequency provisions have been extensively revised and, wherever practical, specific test results are required to be recorded. The former 'tick-the-box' approach has been abandoned in favour of specific 'yeso' or quantitative answers throughout.
