CANINE ACANTHOSIS NIGRICANS - A REPORT OF 3 CASES

Acanthosis nigricans (Distrophia papillaris et pigmentosa) was first described in dogs by Schindelka (1908). An idiopathic dermatitis characterised by progressive hyperpigmentation, alopecia and lichnefication seen mainly in Dachshund breed of dog. Lesions were bilaterally symmetrical commencing from axillae spreading to proximal limbs, ventral abdomen, neck and inguinal areas (Muller and Kirk, 1976; Jubb et al., 1985; Scott and Walton, 1985). Three cases encountered in the study are reported here.
