An experiment was conducted in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, during 2002 kharif season, to study the combining ability for oil and protein content in 15 F1, F2 and F3 generations of soyabean lines JS 335, Punjab 1, MACS 13, PK 327 and Pusa 22 crossed with testers PK 472, MACS 58 and NRC 12 in a line x tester mating design. Based on the mean performance, combining ability and gene effects, the crosses PK 327 x PK 472 and JS 335 x MACS 58 involved at least one parent with high per se performance and high gca effects. Both crosses showed duplicate type epistasis for oil and protein content.
