Political conventions have come and gone, and candidates are trying to win the battleground states, focusing on independent and undecided voters who are not "party-faithful." What do those people really want? This group includes owners of small and midsized businesses. Thereis much variety within this segment, and neither party can assume that the other has an advantage or a disadvantage. This business community is as diverse as the population itself. It doesn't seem likely that these businesses would share much common ground, but they are in near-universalagreement on several issues. The question is whether those running for office recognize these common positions. The contest becomes more focused when you realize there are maybe 10 states in play. The states that can still slide in either direction are Ohio, Florida, Colorado, New Hampshire,Iowa, Nevada, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Others might be Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Mexico, and Minnesota.
