AS reported elsewhere in this issue, last month's Horti Fair was the last one to be staged at the RAI exhibition complex in Amsterdam. However, despite this sad news and the current downbeat economic climate, the 15,000 visitors that toured the four halls could not complain about the level of new technology.First up is the winner of the show's Innovation Award, which this time went toSercom Regeltechniek, Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) and CropEye.The prize was for Air Monitoring, a system that allows growers to monitor the composition of the greenhouse air and act quickly when the concentration of harmful gasses rises too high. The growth and development of a crop can be seriously inhibited if the concentration of ethylene andNOx in the greenhouse air rises too high, and it is documented that unwanted gases can lead to production and quality losses in the region of 10-20%.
