In 1991, Prof. Gratzel of Losanne of Switzerland developed a solar cell based on dye-sensitized colloidal TiO{sub}2 film to attract keen attention throughout the world. The cell, however, has not been developed as commercial one. Little progress have been reported. this is because the cell employs liquid electrolyte containing organic solvent. Dye-Sensitized solar Cells are promising technology for realizing practical popular use thanks to its potentials of high conversion efficiency and its low production cost when compared with silicon based solar cell. Unlike silicon-based solar cells, however, dye-sensitized solar cells contains liquid electrolyte. It has generally been difficult to achieve practical use of these cells due to leakage and vaporization of the liquid electrolyte.
