Electrical equipment in hazardous areas

In December 1996 Committee EL-014 - Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas approved the strategic guidelines for the adoption of all the existing IEC series of Standards applying to explosion-protected electrical equipment (Ex equipment), namely, the series 60079 (Gases and Vapours), 61241 (Dusts), 61779 (Gas Detectors), and any other future series applying to this field and published by IEC. In 1999 and 2000, 19 IEC Standards were adopted and most of these were identical Standards (the only two modified adoptions so far are AS/NZS 61241.1.2:2000 and AS/NZS 61779.6:2000).
