Eight new merger and acquisiton (M&A) transactions were an- nounced in the week to 23 May, six of which were divestitures. Two of those deals involved buying a partner in a joint venture. While the week did not include any standout deal, several were note- worthy. Givaudan—a serial acquirer—signifcantly increased the size of its savory favors business in North America with the $340 million acquisition of Spicetec from ConAgra Foods. Bayer sold its' $918-mil- lion environmental science business, and Solvay bought out Eastman in a cellulose acetate fake joint venture.
