As a child, if I wasn't looking at things under a toy microscope or collecting rocks, I was making volcanoes out of baking soda and vinegar, or learning how brains worked. I probably have my parents to thank for that: one a chemist, the other a science teacher. Science was never very far away.My first few science lessons at secondary school were unforgettable - the colours, smells and excitement of getting to do a 'real' experiment quickly made science my favourite subject. However, at GCSE age, my interest in science started to drift, exam by exam. I still enjoyed science, particularly biology, but the colour had drained out of the subject for me.
