Five employees of Lanzhou Petrochemical (Lanzhou, China), a China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC; Beijing) subsidiary, died and six employees were injured after an explosion at a tank farm in the com- pany’s manufacturing complex on January 7, reports say. Preliminary analysis indicates that the blast was triggered by static electricity igniting flammable gas that had leaked from a pyrolysis C4 tank, CNPC says. The complex is 30 km from Lanzhou city center and residential buildings, which are about 500 meters from the complex, were not affected by the accident, CNPC says.
