Cyclodextrins(CDs)are cyclic structures consisting of six to eight glucose units.Laboratory work showed that they can dramatically reduce the tack of stickies and also inhibit the tendency of microstickies to agglomerate and deposit out.Contact angle measurements showed that CDs increase the hydrophilicity of PSA films,making them more wettable.CDs can also reduce the tack of pitch components but to a lesser extent.Two trials with beta-CD at a newsprint mill confirmed its ability to reduce the tack of filtrate components.Surprisingly,beta-CD is effective only at a low dose;increasing the dose reverses the benefit.
