Improvement of Alumina-Spinel Castables for Steel Ladles

摘要

The main cause of wear of alumina-spinel castables used in steel ladle sidewalls is peeling-off (structural spalling). This wear is caused by crack formation associated with property changes in the slag- penetrated zone. It was found that both the corrosion resistance and the slag penetration resistance were different, depending on the parity of the alumina, resulting in a difference in the peeling-off characteristics in service. The results of the improvement of alumina-spinel castables, based on lab testing and field trials, are discussed in this paper.
