Diagnosis of any cancer can bring shock and disbelief. For prostate cancer, to this shock and disbelief is added confusion given the lack of clarity regarding the best treatment option. This confusion stems from the lack of solid data demonstrating the superiority of one treatment option over another on cancer control. Indeed, for many men no treatment or delayed treatment (ie, active surveillance) may be the best choice. It is not uncommon for men to take months to decide on the right treatment and actually receive their treatment, one which separates prostate cancer from many other cancers in which treatment is rarely delayed.
