Many of the economic packages proposed to pull us out of global recession have had more than a tinge of green. Global economic stimulus money estimated at US$2.8 trillion and rising, is expected to fund a transition to a new low carbon and resource efficient paradigm.The figures are impressive. Following on from its original US$789bn stimulus package, the US government announced in September that it is going to allocate an additional US$550m to develop renewable energy projects. This should double the US production of renewable energy within a few years. With other countries such as China and Korea making substantial commitments to low carbon programmes, surely the future is greener?
