摘要

The word 'innovation' often carries with it the sense of pace - getting on with change or creating a discontinuity with the past. There is something radical in the word that attracts some people (and makes others fearful!). The two articles in this section of the Journal remind us that innovation can also be a measured process, which, if change is to become embedded in the local culture, can take time. In 'I have a dream ...', the process of generating a widely owned vision is described in which both the process and some of its components can be described as being genuinely innovative, but it took time and some knock-backs. In 'Making something of it.. .' there is, again, an illustration of a journey that required constant reflection, adaptation and a willingness to think differently. Both articles remind us that innovation, if it is to deliver lasting change, must take people with it - and for that we need purposeful, long-term and reflective leadership.
