The application of polymeric products has expanded it base as building malerials due to the increasing of cost of labour and conventional building materials used in structures and in protective coatings. Polymeric materials are the fourth major class if building materials after steel, wood and cement. The need for a high strength to weight ratio, modern living styles and houses of fine architecture are also some crucial factors for replacing conventional materials by polymeric materials. The main challenges before the construction and building industries are:1. To resolve the common defects in construction suich as seepage, chemical and environmental erosion and corrosion, floor pits, sagging, blistering, warpage, etc.2. To provide modern, decaorative houses to high-income g roups.3. To satisfy the primary requiremdet of industrial workers and standardizaiton of residential buildings.4. To solve the problem of high eneryg and consumption of material with lower productivity.5. To minimize the cost of construction6. To make the building structure portable.7. To reduce the weight/stength ratio8. To improve the thermal and sound insulaiton of the building structure.9. To use environmental friendly building materials10.To reinforce historical structures and monumentsIn the present paper, various type of building material based on polymers have been discussed to face these challenges.
