Hard times continue for South Africa's poultry industry

Imports and input prices may be off their recent highs, but South Africa's poultry market still has a long way to go to return to good times of mid-last decade.South Africa's broiler production in 2013 is thought to have shrunk by 0.4 percent in comparison with 2012, a slight improvement on the 0.6 percent contraction reported for that year.Recently released data reveal that, despite this slight improvement in performance during 2013, the South African broiler industry continues to face significant pressures. Should there be any growth in sector, the earliest it will occur will be in the second half of 2014.
