Materials Winner is Nanocomposite TPO, first commercial as a step assist (running board) on the General Motors M-Van, and destined to conquer a variety of exterior trim applications. As Market Search has previously reported, the material uses a much smaller percentage of filler than conventional filled TPOs, resulting in lower weight, better low-temperature ductility, higher gloss, and improved mar resistance. The improved properties result from a General Motors-developed technology for separating the clay fill into nanosize particles and compatiblizing them with the TPO resin.
