Asian styrene monomer ended the week on a buoyant note in defiance of market fundamentals as market participants reacted positively to the possibility that the Chinese government will not further tighten lending and property curbs in view of the recent slowdown in growth. Despite front-month crude futures easing $1.23/barrel on the day and main feedstock benzene prices stable at $820/mt FOB Korea, the SM FOB Korea benchmarks rebounded $15/mt to close at $1,069.50/mt while the CFR China benchmark jumped $14/mt to settle at $1,088.50/mt.
