Spot MEG barge prices rose 3 cents/lb to 39-40 cents/lb as supply was tight from several turnarounds and unplanned outages. There were anti-freeze grade barges offered at 42 cents/lb FOB the tank. An integrated anti-freeze maker was heard to be short of MEG but had little interest in a 42 cents/lb barge. Spot trucks were heard sold at 48 cents/lb ex-tank New Jersey and Chicago, and 45 cents/lb FOB USG. MEGlobal’s North American benchmark for August was at 42 cents/lb but will jump to 45 cents/lb in September. The company typically has a 15% discount off the contract for large volume buyers and spot sellers then follow the discounted price. Supply was tight and demand firm from anti-freeze blenders, which made spot truck sellers put their price at the September benchmark.
