Blow molding prices jumped higher this week despite many traders’ concerns that China was nowhere near accepting prices that would be needed to make US exports viable. There was an Ineos’ HDPE blow molding auction Wednesday that got done at 53.8 cents/lb FOB plant with 10 day payment terms, which was essentially the same as Formosa’s 54 cents/lb offer that had longer credit terms. Adding 2.5 cents/lb to put the material in bags would the price at $1,241/mt FAS Houston for the Ineos auction and $1,246/mt for the Formosa cargo.
