The Asian PVC market firmed $5-6/mt on week as China’s demand is seen to remain healthy for October arrival cargoes. Typically, China’s PVC demand slows down from October onward due to weak demand from the construction sector as well as a one week holiday in early October, which resulted in lower prices. But this year, PVC demand is seen to remain healthy for October due to lower plant operations — especially carbide-based PVC plants — due to power usage restriction by the Chinese government. In Jiangsu, the local government advised PVC plant operators to strictly follow plant working hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This week, carbide-based PVC prices were pegged at Yuan 7,400- 7,500/mt delivered, Yuan 100/mt higher from the previous week. Ethylene-based PVC prices were pegged at Yuan 7,600- 7,700/mt delivered, also Yuan 100/mt firmer on week.
