Spot MEG rose 0.5 cents/lb in the US as supply remained tight. LyondellBasell was unconfirmed to have restarted its Bayport, Texas plant this week after a two week shutdown. Market participants believed the plant was running at severely reduced rates and the company had not lifted its force majeure or 50% allocation. LyondellBasell has a turnaround scheduled for the Bayport unit in September and sources believed the plant would limp along until the turnaround was complete with the allocation likely to stay in place into October. The company has the capacity to produce about 306,000 mt/year combined of MEG, DEG, and TEG in Bayport.
