Traders in the NWE butadiene and crude C4 markets said that opportunities to export both products to the US were closed to European sellers this week. One source said: “You can’t sell into the US above contract price (94 cents per gallon), which means you need lower than Eur1,450/mt ($1,850/mt) to be able to sell.” A second trader felt that export prices needed to be “below Eur1,400/mt,” adding that there were additional constraints in the form of higher freight rates for shipping butadiene or crude C4 because a lack of available spot product meant that exporters had to load product from multiple points.
