The Asian PVC market weakened Wednesday, with prices dropping $5/mt on the week, dragged down by weak buying interests. This week, Northeast Asian producers revealed their new May offers, keeping their offers for May arrival from April at $1,040-1,050/mt CFR China, reflecting firming feedstock values — notably ethylene. Asian ethylene prices spiked by $50/mt on the week to $1,255/mt CFR Northeast Asia on Wednesday, increasing production cost for PVC producers. However, buying appetite from China remained weak and bids were only reported at $1,000/mt CFR China for May.
