Asian purified terephthalic acid prices were assessed unchanged at $872/mt CFR China, $865/mt CFR SEA and $910/mt CFR India, bucking price trends upstream and a slew of bearish news released in China this week. Given a sharp fall in crude oil prices, feedstock paraxylene prices meandered $32/mt lower on the week to $892/mt FOB Korea. While PTA CFR China prices fluctuated at $860- 880/mt, end-week gains were largely on the back of a firmer futures market in China. The benchmark October futures contract closed Yuan 124/mt higher on the day at Yuan 7,722/mt on Friday. September parcels of Taiwanese origin were bid at $870/mt and offered at $880/mt CFR China (L/C 90 days) on Friday, while September parcels of Korean origin were bid at $850/mt CFR China (L/C 90 days). No trades were concluded. Although demand for PTA had remained stable, polyester demand took a step back this week.
