European acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene producers, as with most producers in the styrenics chain, admitted they will lose margin in August due to the seasonally low demand period in August. With feedstock butadiene contracts for September settling at a decrease, and styrene expected to also settle at a rollover-to-decrease, there was less pressure from production costs, enabling them to target an improved margin with the pick-up in demand observed in the second half of August. However, most were still under pressure from Asian imports. "It has been a slow month, but demand is picking up in H2 August, so maintaining margin was not possible; with demand [slow] we have had to make compromises.
