Spot import prices rose on higher PX prices in Asia. There were import offers at 88 cents/lb duty delivered paid to the West Coast for September delivery, and demand was said to be brisk as domestic producers will try to push through a 4 cents/lb price hike in September. A 4 cents/lb price increase would push domestic prices to the mid-90's cents/lb, which is why the 88 cents/lb offer was attractive. Most participants were confident that most of the increase would be successful as producers were faced with another cost push from MEG and PX. The US PX contract tends to follow Asia and September's spot PX price in Asia was at $1,670/mt CFR, $130/mt higher than August's Asia Contract Price. Assuming the ACP settlement follows the spot price, sources believed the US PX CP would also jump higher by at least 5 cents/lb.
