The Asian PVC market was steady Wednesday from a week earlier amid uncertainty in the broader global economic outlook. The CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia prices remained unchanged week on week Wednesday at $1,126/mt and $1,131/mt, respectively, while the CFR India price remained flat at $1,146/mt. There was little PVC trading activity anywhere in Asia this week, with most market participants opting to monitor the market from the sidelines amid concerns of a global economic slowdown after ratings agency Standard & Poor’s downgraded the credit rating of US Treasuries for the first time. (Standard & Poor’s, like Platts, is owned by The McGraw-Hill Companies.) PVC demand had earlier been expected to pick up as September-November is typically peak demand season.
